The founder of CloudPhysio is Dan McDonald – a practicing physiotherapist with over 15 years of clinical experience in the field of orthopaedics.
If you want a face to face appointment, that can be arranged, as he owns two physiotherapy practices in British Columbia (BC), Canada. Of course that would defeat the purpose of Cloudphysio, but would make for a great vacation in beautiful British Columbia!
Dan gained his physiotherapy undergraduate degree in the UK and later completed a Masters of Manual Therapy in Perth, Western Australia. He has a special interest in the treatment of acute and chronic musculoskeletal injuries. He is also trained in Intramuscular Stimulation (IMS) therapy – a form of needling developed by Dr. Chan Gunn.
Despite all of this manual therapy training, Dan believed there was a real need to be able to connect physiotherapist with injured, ill or disabled people using modern technology. He saw its potential benefits whilst working in a remote area of BC, where people would frequently have to travel 60–100km each way for treatment.
Imbedded in all physiotherapists’ training is ‘evidence based practice’ and keeping current in what is considered best practice. With this in mind, Dan first set out to see what the research said about telerehabilitation. Although relatively new, there had been a good amount of research on this topic which showed positive outcomes for both assessment and management of a variety of conditions.
The keys to a successful rehabilitation process are good assessment and good management. Physiotherapist’s are highly skilled in both assessment and injury management. Injury management consists of three main areas: exercise, education and manual therapy.
Studies have shown that telerehabilitation is a valid and reliable method to both assess and treat a variety of orthopaedic and neurological conditions and may also be extremely beneficial in areas such as cardiorespiratory and men’s and women’s health.
With the confidence in the research, an identified need, and a lack of product on the market, Dan set out to bring people in need closer to a skilled physiotherapist who could help them.
Everyone at Cloudphysio is very proud to be able to offer this type of service to you. We look forward to being able to help you!
